Championing Museums in Cultural Policy and Sustainable Development: ICOM at the UCLG Culture Summit and Mondiacult |
|
ICOM participated in the UCLG Culture Summit in Barcelona and the Mondiacult World Conference on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development. The conference focused on six priority areas, namely, Cultural Rights, Digital Technologies in the Culture Sector, Culture and Education, Economy of Culture, Culture and Climate Action, Culture, Heritage and Crisis, and the two focus areas: Culture for Peace and Artificial Intelligence and Culture.
As an advocate for culture in global policy, ICOM recently participated in key international initiatives, contributing to the launch of the Version 1 of a Culture Goal within the Culture2030 Campaign, supporting the adoption of the Barcelona Declaration on culture-based climate action, and joining UNESCO’s launch of the Virtual Museum of Stolen Cultural Objects to advance the fight against illicit trafficking of cultural heritage.
These events were an opportunity for ICOM to take part in the discussions shaping cultural policies in these areas, not only to address our current needs, but also policies that will serve future generations. |

The Red List supports law enforcement, museums, cultural institutions, and the art market in their efforts to recognise and prevent the illicit trade and movement of these objects.
The Turkish edition of the Red List was launched during a special celebratory event which took place in Bodrum on 6 October 2025. The launch gathered leading museums professionals and experts in fighting the illicit trafficking of cultural heritage in both Türkiye and abroad. |
